Originally was only planning on hittin’ up Summer Camp Friday night, but enjoyed the atmosphere and wound up going back Sunday afternoon to see some Willie Nelson and moe.
In general hippies and wooks are the most confused people on the block so I question the festivals lack of direction and informed volunteers as you drive into the park. It was literally mass chaos – all the volunteers were people who were donating time in order to get into the festival for free and there were no signs as far as where you were supposed to park, enter the field, or retrieve tickets from Will Call. Once settled (which took a lot longer than it should) – checked out the festival site.
The festival takes place at Three Sisters Park. It’s a big field and some surrounding woods where people can camp. Here is the map of the place:

I would have loved to scan in a map to share, but there were none – literally. There were like 3 laminated poster sized ones to serve everyone, so we spent a lot of our time just wondering around and trying to figure out who was playing where.
Here is me in the woods on these trails that connected the camping with the stages:

People set up crazy shit in the woods – hammocks and tents were the majority, but there were also people who set up “Space Mazes” using colored Christmas lights, shiny paper, a radio that played out of a fluorescent mushroom. The Space Maze:

Vendors were way great – got a dress to wear next weekend at Phenway and a poster from the weekend which I plan on getting framed with mine and the gentlemen friend’s backstage passes. Typical lot food: smoothies, breakfast burritos, ‘za, and grilled cheese. Here was the vendor scene:

Now the highlights of the shows:
Friday, May 22nd

Redman / Method Man

Umphreys McGee (second set)

Dark Star Orchestra (late night show)
Sunday, May 24th

Willie Nelson
Most notable song – “Georgia On My Mind”.

moe. (second set)
And here’s their lounge backstage:

And then I achieved a new appreciate of moe. (granted – Summer Camp originated as moe. Fest – so they should have been superior to all). I was really impressed by their light show and live sound. And apparently mid-set I told my gentleman friend that my jam bands rank changed to the following: Phish > STS9 > moe. > Umphreys McGee. I don’t know if I’d go that far, but I’ll definitely check their next JAM Productions show.
