A little late on my weekend update, but alas here’s what happened over the weekend:
I went to the Lincoln Park Zoo on Sunday and I would like to share with you what I learned there. The Lincoln Park Zoo is Chicago’s free zoo that has some polar bears and peguins. Since it’s free it always attracts random people, lots of strollers, and kids – in fact the one I was with was wearing a Batman costume. While the people watching is great, the animal watching is not. Your average cage looked like this:
NO ANIMALS!
As is you probably note, there are NO ANIMALS.
Upon further investigation I find the reasoning behind the lack of animals:
NEGLECTED Zookeeper Notes
As you can see Zookeeper, “J. Mick”, has not updated his Zookeeper notes since 2008. This is a shame that I see this right before I pass a collections box asking me to donate to the zoo:
Donate a Dollar for Conservation
Most of you have probably put this together, but we have to ask: Why is the zoo asking for monetary donations when the Zookeepers don’t even update their Zookeeper notes? Where are my donations going when there are no animals and neglectful zookeepers are running a muck?
To be fair, the zoo is making genuine, money-conserving cutbacks this year – probably due to the recession. For instance, in the winter the zoo’s main entainment is Zoo Lights. (AWESOME!) During the summer season, you will find musicians scattered around the zoo:

(NOT AS AWESOME).
I was also really happy to find out that the zoo has flamingos and they live in a place called “Flamingo Island” on the south side of the zoo. It seems really nice. I forgot they had flamingos because I don’t frequent the zoo and generally only go for Zoo Lights in the winter, when the flamingos have gone south. It was refreshing to see that the flamingos had not fallen victim to the neglect of any Zookeepers. If I could’ve had my “dollar for conversation” be directly given to the flamingo department, I would have been a lot more inclined to donate.

Besides the zoo — over the weekend, President Obama delivered the Commencement Address to the graduates of Notre Dame’s 2009 class!

…And the Catholics freaked the fuck out and demonstrated against a whole slue of issues – abortion, church and state violations, etc.

Come on guys, he spoke at THREE colleges, you were one of THREE colleges that got to have the President of the United States speak at your commencement cermony. Not to mention one college was the US Naval Academy – a given. Anyways, the Catholics were out on Sunday actin’ a fool over in South Bend, they should have gotten my Sunday Salute post last night, but it was a long day at the zoo.. so instead, I passed out.
