Packages in the Mail!

May 19, 2009

Today is a huge day for me – I’m getting my tickets in the mail for Phish @ Fenway.  UPS says it’s out for delivery and I have confirmed with out mail clerk that UPS comes between 1-2pm.

To my surprise, I get a knock on my office door a few minutes ago and the mail clerk has a big manila envelope!  Unfortunately, the Phish tickets have yet to arrive today (stay posted!), but I did receive these free Chuck Palahniuk stickers I ordered a while back:

Rest in Peace Double G. Been Real.

May 12, 2009

Oy.  Shit.  Fuck my life.  Monday’s entertainment, Gossip Girl has jumped the shark.  Tonight’s episode was the 80s flashback episode in which the CW network uses Gossip Girl to market the spin off starting in the summer about Lily’s teenage years.   Shit’s going downhill.  Next week is the season finale and thank god.  It’s going to get one hour of my attention next Monday and then I think it’s time to discontinue viewership.

Gossip Girl is about to wrap up the second season of a painfully long duration of like 30 episodes.  The CW took breaks every four weeks, so I think we’ve been watching this season since this time last year.  It’s become mildly retarded.   Blair and Nate break up tonight in a perfect moment on the dance floor of their senior prom.  It’s like visual vomit.  No one has a perfect break up moment.  When you break up, you yell at each other and throw shit and be snarky.  The whole season it’s been like they’ve run out of things that rich people do, so they have a 18 year old having sex with his English teach in a janitors closet while the school play is going on.  I went to Ignatius, which is Chicago’s fancy college prep school.  Is that what these kids who drove Lexuses to school did while I was playing the piano in the orchestra for the school’s yearly musical?  The fuck are they getting this shit?

I’m tempted to devote part of my summer reading the Gossip Girls series in which the show is based on.  These books are sold in the Intermediate fiction section of major book stores.  Is this really what little girls are reading?

This was a raw show with solid plot lines, interesting characters, and witty dialogue, much like the OC before the end of season 3 when Josh Schwartz kills off main character, Marisa.  And much like the OC, Schwartz is producing the same shenanigans in order to squeeze one more season out of the show and be able to co-promote the moronic spin-off.  Should have just ended it with next Monday’s episode and allowed the show to die with (some) dignity.

And a delayed fuck off to anyone who’s judging this post.  I like Gossip Girl, it’s a stupid, guilty pleasure.  I’m sure the majority of you are spending your weekday evening television viewing with Real World/Road Rules: Battle of the Sexes or Biggest Loser or American Idol, so don’t like act like you’re watching anything better or that you don’t get so involved with a show that you don’t develop some opinions.  The show could serve as an example how popular video streaming has gotten; one of the reasons the show is barely holding it’s own is because viewers are watching episodes via web streaming rather than on television so the ratings are in the shitter.  It also got all that media attention with the censorship people and the CW used the negative press to promote the show’s new “scandalous”, “OMFG” image.  Kinda brilliant marketing despite the fact the show just keeps going downhill and Schwartz is just pulling out all the stops to save a failing show.

Gossip Girl

Dear god, I just wrote nearly 550 words in a post – a post that’ll get little to no hits – about Gossip Girl – the fuck am I doing with my life?

Palahniuk and Costumes.

April 20, 2009

Chuck Palahniuk requests fans to dress up in costume during his upcoming book tour for his new novel, Pygmy.  Click the image to read the full “request to fans”.   You should probably buy his book since he’s a lover of costumes and porn.

Don’t let your dignity stop you from having a good time - Chuck Palahniuk
